Horezu tourist resort is situated in the north-western extremity of Vâlcea county, in a depression area bordered to the south by Măgura Slătiorului and to the north by the Căpăţânii Mountains, averaging an altitude of approximately 550 m. The resort is located at a distance of 44 km to the west of Rm. Vâlcea, the county seat (on DN 67). The locality is crossed from east to west by DN 67, an important road artery connecting/crossing three intensely circulated European roads: E 81 – at Rm. Vâlcea, E 79 – at Târgu Jiu and E 70 at Drobeta-Tr. Severin.
The town of Horezu is part of an area of great value from the tourist point of view, known in the specialty literature as “Oltenia de sub Munte” (Oltenia at the foot of the Mountains), an area which includes a great number of cultural and historic monuments, values of the national and universal heritage, numerous natural points of interest, most of them being also nature reserves, monuments of nature or protected areas, to these being added an important ethnocultural heritage, unique in Romania through its distinctive traits and its value from a tourist and cultural point of view. The town of Horezu belongs to the Development Region No. 4 South-West Oltenia, whose centre is located at Craiova.
